In our last blog post we discussed some of the ins and outs of major medical coverage in a no waiting period health insurance policy. Today we are going to cover some of coverages you may use on a more regular basis. Copays, prescription drug coverages, and some of the optional features you can choose if you so please. Let's dig in!
What the heck is a copay? A copay is pretty simple. You have to pay a copay for certain services. The most common copay you will see is when you visit the doctor. Some policies make you pay for the entire visit at the insurance company's discounted rate. Some policies will give you a set amount to pay. This could be anywhere from $20 per visit up to $50 per visit depending on your policy. Some policies offer the same copay for visits to your primary physician as they do for specialists like a cardiologist and some policies have separate copay options for specialists. You may also have a copay for visits to the urgent care or emergency room if you are not admitted as a patient to the hospital. Less common are copay options for things like surgeries and labs but some policies do use this option to help reduce the cost to you, the consumer.
Your no waiting period health insurance policy will also likely include prescription drug benefits. Depending on the policy you choose you may either have to pay for your prescriptions, at the insurance companies discounted rate, until you reach your deductible. Some policies have a copay option. This means you may pay $15 for generic drugs or $20 for generic, it all depends on your policy. The policy you choose will likely have a higher copay for more expensive drugs or drugs that are not prescribed very often.
Finally, some of the options you may choose to add to your policy are vision benefits, dental benefits, supplemental accident insurance, accidental death benefits, and term life coverage. We will review review all of these no waiting period health insurance additional benefits in our next post.
